About Malta

 
Malta, including Gozo and Comino, covers an area of 316 square kilometers. The three islands easily accommodatet, 5 times, in the London area. The Malta shoreline measures 196,8 km so it would take around 40 hours to walk around it.
 
On Malta there lives 417,000 inhabitants and there are about 300,000 cars. During high season are about 1 million visitors on Malta.
 
Religion in Malta is predominantly Roman Catholic.
 
The official language is Maltese and English. The Maltese people talk often Maltese to each other, but everyone understands English. A common expression, as you will hear is "mellah". I have not received any direct explanation of what that means but it is used on many occasions, for example, ok, go on, or just to fill the time.
 
The currency is euro.
 
It costs 1,50 euro to take the bus all over Malta in one day. If you plane to take the bus at least 5 days it´s better to buy a weekly ticket. Hop on-off buses cost between 15-17 euros and has two routes, one in the south and one in the north of Malta. There is also a tour of Gozo. Taxis from the airport to Sliema costs 20 euros. If you take a taxi during your stay, agree on the price in advance. The taxiboat can bee taken between Sliema and Valletta and costs about 1.80 euro one way.
